2012 Provincial Grand Secretaries Report
4th Provincial Assembly of Wessex, hosted by Bishop Leofric Court No. 58 Held in Okehampton, Devon on the 18th. May 2012
THE PROVINCE OF WESSEX 2012 RW. PGM, Grand Officers, and brethren all. It is now my pleasure to report on the development of the Province of Wessex in particular. Since the conception of the Province of Wessex commencing 31st. May 2008 together with the Consecration of our first Court, namely Malmesbury Court No. 100, many new and exciting developments have taken place. For example on the 15th. August 2009 we Consecrated our second Court, Bishop Leofric No. 58 in the County of Devon. Meeting new and enthusiastic Companions that have taken to heart the concept of the Order. And on the 23rd. of January just this year we were privileged to found the third Court, “The Court of Æþelbald No. 62. These Companions of Keynsham are to behold, I think you are all due for a treat. When the Court meeting follows this Provincial Court closing you will see how dedicated and professional they are. Our RWProv.GM and myself did attend their 1st. Regular meeting in March when they performed an Instruction ceremony that was entirely produced by their own members. we were both impressed by the standard of the ritual and enthusiasm for the progress of “The Order of Athelstan” They have decided as a team to write down not only their names and other personal details but most interestingly to report on the Consecration Day as recorded from memory of that occasion, to be laid down and sealed behind their Warrant to be read out in Open Court 50 years later. I think you will agree that idea hits the spot. I only wish that other orders that I belong to had done the same, making it easy for the Court Historian whoever it may be to record that memorable day. OK as for the future, much further success will follow, but not to hasten to add, withought considerable time and effort on behalf of our hard working RWPGM. ----- Willing to pursue any valid lead to spark interest wherever within his Province the “Order of Athelstan” is mentioned. A new Court in Cornwall is making good progress under the direction of the Founding organiser. W.Bro. K. Barry Chalkley, MBE. The new Court will be named “King Hywel of Cornwall” meeting at Perranporth, to be Consecrated this September on the 25th. of the month, not to hasten to say to be confused with Magonsaetan`s “Hywel Dda, they are two totally different persons. And hear before us the Master of “The Court of Æþelbald” , W.Bro. Mervyn S Western has made good progress in forming a Court in the North Somerset area in Burnham -on - Sea . To be called ÆĐELRED REX. He has secured quality Companions and the petition has been granted by Grand Court being Court No. 66, so the Consecration date is to be held in Nailsea Masonic centre on the 3rd. July this year. And as a surprise to all of us living in this area A new Court in the centre of Bristol, Park Street to be named “Bricgstowe” the anciant name for the city. This formation has been secured by W.Bro. Colin Lowther who has infiltrated the closed Balwin Encampment that has been in existence for some considerable time within Bristol. We are close to the 20 unique members that Wessex demands for the construction of a new Court and the Craft PGM and DepPGM of Bristol have agreed that “The Order of Athelstan” will be allowed to use the magnificent Temples that are so unique and palatious. I urge you not to miss this Consecration brethren. The date that has been penciled in: Is for November this year. There are, as you may guess many more willing helpers in the Province of Wessex, prominent and influential Companions in other Orders, all instilling the premise “Quality against Quantity” . That is so in the South Devon and Dorchester area to Wiltshire to the Isles of Scilly all progressing well to make Wessex a strong and prosperous Province. And finely, - may Wessex continue to excite all who are members of "The Order of Athelstan". To progress with enthusiasm and seal, and be proud that we the members, have been privileged to be part of this new and exclusive Order. That R.W. ProvGMaster and Brethren that is my report. W.Bro. Brian G. Wright, DepGSec , Provincial Grand Secretary.
